The Sugar Stealer’s Name.

Being halfway into the year, and having accomplished weekly poetry, art, and fashion workshops, two exhibitions, the beginning of a female-led music collective, and collaborations with other charities, we thought it was a good time to reminisce over the origin of Sugar Stealers.

Our name originates from the tale of the dandelion plant. More specifically, the dandelion seeds which are known to steal sugar from bee hives. This happens when the seeds transfer with the bees from plant to hive, and take root in the hive. The dandelion seeds, therefore, are titled Sugar Stealers.

Our founder, Tricia Gardiner, always knew dandelion seeds as sugar stealers, and recalls stories of them landing in ice cream and sugar bowls as a child in her hometown of Boston.

Those summer memories are what helped put a name to the Sugar Stealers ethos; here at Fisher Gate Point, we are the sugar pot. Our women are the dandelion seeds, full of ideas and creativity floating around the Nottingham community. Together, we are Sugar Stealers, where seeds can land and flourish in a warm and nurturing environment.
